The Museum is located in the architectural complex of the Congregation of the Filippini Fathers at Olivella, dating back to the 17th century. Its collection illustrates the various phases of art and civilization of western Sicily, from prehistory to the Middle Ages. The Museum houses prestigious examples of 18th and 19th-century collecting, including non-Sicilian origins such as the Casuccini Etruscan Collection, artifacts found during excavation campaigns on the island, thanks to the tireless work of Antonino Salinas (1841-1914) to whom the Institute is dedicated.
