A road sign in Ushuaia welcomes you with the words: end of the world. Welcome to Patagonia, land of penguins, whales, sea lions, elephant seals, and fire. Welcome to classic Patagonia, an itinerary curated by “Patagonia World”.
This tour of Argentina, designed for discerning travelers, begins with two days on the Valdés Peninsula, where you can spot penguins, whales, and other unique wildlife in protected areas found only here or in a handful of places around the globe. Accommodations are set in the Punta Delgada Lighthouse on the peninsula, with sunrise horseback rides across the steppe to start your day.
The next two days are dedicated to Buenos Aires, Argentina’s vibrant capital with nearly 3 million residents (about 13 million if you count the greater metropolitan area). Buenos Aires is famous for its nightlife and especially for authentic “Argentine tango” performances, whose spirit you can only truly experience here.
The Patagonia tour continues to the legendary “Tierra del Fuego”—a name evoking warmth, though the southern hemisphere’s weather is chilly. Its capital, Ushuaia (pop. approx. 65,000), is the world’s southernmost city, literally the end of the world. The journey in Tierra del Fuego includes navigation of the Beagle Channel, the essential route to reach Ushuaia (about 3,000 km from Buenos Aires).
If you love spectacle, another cruise brings you to natural wonders such as the El Calafate Glaciers (a nearby town), in the Los Glaciares National Park. Then continue to Estancia Cristina on Lago Argentino (Argentina’s largest lake, in Santa Cruz province, southern Patagonia), before finally reaching the mighty Iguazú Falls for a two-night stay.
