3 Seljalandsfoss Waterfall – Iceland
Seljalandsfoss, also known as the “Liquid Waterfall”, is located in Iceland and belongs to the Seljalandsa river – literally, the “Liquid River”. This spectacular sight often graces the cover of magazines dedicated to Iceland, sometimes with a beautiful rainbow above it.
4 Iguazú Falls – Argentina/Brazil
On the border between Argentina and Brazil, the Iguazú River gives rise to these spectacular falls. Their sheer scale is so great, you can even spot them from a commercial flight.
5 Cascate delle Marmore – Italy
With a drop of 165 meters divided among three tiers, Cascate delle Marmore are among the tallest waterfalls in Europe. The name comes from the nearby hamlet of Marmore in the municipality of Terni, in the Umbria region.
6 Victoria Falls – Zambia/Zimbabwe
Straddling Zambia and Zimbabwe in Central Africa, you can swim in the legendary Devil’s Pool, a natural pool perched at the very edge of Victoria Falls on the Zambezi River.
7 Bigar Waterfall – Romania
Located precisely halfway between the North Pole and the Equator, the waters of the Minis River create Bigar Waterfall in Transylvania. It’s most famous for the way the water flows over mossy green limestone rocks, rather than its water volume.
8 Barron Falls – Australia
In Australia, specifically in northern Queensland, you’ll find the impressive Barron Falls, known as Bibhoora in the local Aboriginal language. The Barron River plunges from the Atherton Tablelands down toward the Cairns plain, creating an extraordinary natural spectacle.
9 Havasu Falls – USA
Set in a remote canyon in Arizona, deep within the territory of the Havasupai tribe, Havasu Falls create a mesmerizing scene with their striking red rocks, lush greenery, and white travertine.
10 Athirapally Falls – India
Located in the Indian state of Kerala, Athirapally Falls, also known as Suren Chellakutti Falls, have earned the nickname “the Niagara of India” thanks to the mighty flows of the Chalakudy River.
