Opened in 1985, it offers a complete tour to learn about the history of the territory. The archaeological section houses artifacts and tools from man dating from prehistory to the Middle Ages; the mineralogical section includes minerals from the Cyclops Islands and Acicastello, among them analcime, philipsite, herschelite, needle-like aragonite, as well as quartz, diaspores, agates, and a Sicilian gypsum sulfur series. There is also a rich collection of minerals related to volcanic activity. In the paleontological section, there are fossils ranging from the Mesozoic era to the Pleistocene, ammonites, plant remains, and vertebrate bone remains.
