The funerary monuments of the necropolis in the Cappella area are part of a complex of hypogeum tombs arranged along the ancient road that connected the municipium of Misenum with the city of Cuma. The uncovered section includes at least seven buildings arranged in a single architectural backdrop with an East / West orientation along the edge of the road. The oldest monument, located on the eastern edge, has a different orientation than the others and dates back to the late Republican period. The others, instead attributable to the 1st century A.D., have a quadrangular plan with a barrel vault; inside, the central wall facing the entrance is decorated with a small shrine topped by a pediment, while the side walls are marked by niches. Another mausoleum, more complex and designed to contain a greater number of burials, stands isolated behind the monumental row of buildings, with a completely hypogeal structure and tombs arranged on multiple levels within the burial chamber.
