The Museum, established to remember the civil and cultural tradition of the City and its territory, and to continue and develop it through research and studies, was inaugurated on June 28, 1991. It is housed on the second floor of Palazzo Forte and includes: – a significant collection of local ceramic production from the 12th to the 21st century – newspapers and journalism in Ariano – Historical Archive of the Municipality – Printed editions, rare and valuable from the 15th and 16th centuries – Library – Photographic archive – Conference room. The enhancement of the section “of the ancient popular maiolica of Ariano” constitutes the main objective of the Museum, which currently presents a collection of about 250 ceramic artifacts. To these earthenware pieces, the finds that abundantly flow into the Museum must be added, dating from the 9th century to the late 1400s, coming from sporadic finds and excavations conducted in neighborhood landfills, recently identified along the ancient city walls. The Museum, which has daily become a valid cultural reference point, continuously receives visits from scholars, students, expert collectors, art critics, ceramists, and enthusiasts from everywhere. Eve BoorsooK, from The Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies, a friend and collaborator of the Whitehouse, surprised, dreamy, and grateful, left this memory: “I put into writing the great joy that you and your Museum have given me. The ceramics radiate joy and celebration of life expressed with very elegant invention, everything is displayed with much affection, care, and good taste: a model for all.” Therefore, the Museum created does not have the sole purpose of collecting and preserving testimonies but also aims to address and discuss issues, communicating and stimulating reflections and evaluations, always oriented towards creating opportunities and initiatives to support craft activities.
