“The Salento Civic Museum of Natural History (MSNS) was established in 1982 in Calimera, Province of Lecce. Its management is entrusted to a group of researchers gathered in the Cooperativa NATURALIA. The Museum organizes its exhibition into Departments of Paleontology and Paleoanthropology, Entomology, Herpetology, Ornithology, and in a series of sections ranging from Mineralogy to Malacology, from Mammalogy to Embryology and Teratology. Sections of Astronomy and Planetarium, Geology and Petrography, and Botany are in the planning phase. It has an open-access nature library. Outside, visitors can explore Mediterranean forest and shrub environments. A botanical garden, a butterfly house, a swamp, and a free recreational area are being prepared. Some animals housed in the OFP are located in enclosures, cages, and aviaries open to visitors.”
