“Il Museo civico di Storia Naturale del Salento (MSNS) was founded in 1982 in Calimera in the Province of Lecce. Its management is entrusted to a group of researchers gathered in the NATURALIA Cooperative. The Museum organizes its exhibition in the Departments of Paleontology and Paleoanthropology, Entomology, Herpetology, Ornithology, and in a series of sections ranging from Mineralogy to Malacology, Mammalogy to Embryology and Teratology. Sections on Astronomy and Planetarium, Geology and Petrography, and Botany are being planned. It has a natural history library open to the public. Outside, the environments of woods and Mediterranean scrub can be visited. A botanical garden, a butterfly house, a marsh, and a free recreational area are being set up. Some animals hosted by the OFP are housed in enclosures, cages, and aviaries that can be visited.”
