Near the lagoon, within the town of Lesina, is the Visitor Center of the Lagoon Park. The Lesina Visitor Center was established thanks to the passion and dedication of some local volunteers, who in 1995 began searching for testimonies and documents to create the first Environmental Documentation Center. Then, with the involvement of local administrations, in 1998 this documentation center became Naturmusis, one of the six sections of the Naturalistic Museum System of the province of Foggia, themed “the lagoon birdlife.” In 2002, the new Park Visitor Center was inaugurated, featuring the Natural History Museum, the Ethnographic Museum dedicated to the “Fisherman’s House,” and for the first time in Europe, the brackish water Aquarium connected to the Lesina lagoon via underground tunnels (21,000 liters of water). The naturalistic section thus includes an aquarium of lagoon fish species, the Natural History Museum with dioramas of lagoon flora and fauna, and the botanical garden (The Herb Trail) for a deeper understanding of the unique characteristics that define the territory of Lesina.
