The Pianelle Park Museum of Martina Franca is located in the eighteenth-century Ducal Palace and houses testimonies of the rich environmental heritage of the Pianelle Natural Park, a unique ecosystem situated in the Murge area between Massafra, Cristiano, and Martina Franca, characterized by typically Mediterranean flora. The Pianelle Museum was founded in 1999 with the aim of creating a scientific-educational facility capable of ensuring the enjoyment of the Natural Park, effectively serving as a prelude to visiting the nature reserve. The naturalistic museum is housed in the splendid Ducal Palace from the second half of the 17th century, built by the will of the eighth Duke of Martina Petracone V Caracciolo on the remains of the ancient castle of Raimondello del Balzo Orsini from 1338. The building, whose façade is Baroque style, features a large staircase leading to a Baroque portal that grants access to the palace’s precious rooms: the Dukes’ Chapel, the Arcadia Room, the Myth Room, and the Bible Room. On the second floor of the palace, a modern multifunctional museum structure showcases the scenic and cultural riches of the Pianelle Reserve.
