The Museum of Rural Civilization, founded on July 21, 2001, was established thanks to the donation of Vitantonio Vasta from San Vito, who, with patience and dedication, collected a rich collection of objects and artifacts from peasant civilization.
The Museum is located in the charming setting of the former Dominican Fathers’ Convent and currently, in addition to the Museum, houses the “Giovanni XXIII” Municipal Library. The Museum premises preserve the history and local rural traditions, where the objects kept tell the daily life “of our grandparents”.
All working classes are represented: the peasants (whose work is extensively documented by the many agricultural tools used for plowing and tilling, for harvesting and gathering), the blacksmith, the carpenter, the saddler, the knife grinder, the shoemaker, etc.
All the objects and tools in the Museum are the result of careful research among the local population, but above all are spontaneous and selfless donations from numerous citizens of San Vito.
