The Museum of Rural Civilization, founded on July 21, 2001, was born thanks to the donation of the Sanvitese Vitantonio Vasta who, with patience and dedication, collected a rich collection of objects and artifacts from peasant civilization.
The Museum is located in the charming setting of the former Convent of the Dominican Fathers and currently, in addition to the Museum, houses the “Giovanni XXIII” Municipal Library. In the Museum’s premises are preserved the history and local rural traditions, where the conserved objects tell the daily life “of our grandparents”.
All working classes are represented: peasants (whose work is widely testified by the many agricultural tools used for plowing and tilling, for harvesting and gathering), the blacksmith, the carpenter, the saddler, the sharpener, the shoemaker, etc.
All the objects and tools present in the Museum are the result of careful research among the local population, but above all they are spontaneous and selfless gifts from numerous Sanvitese citizens.
