“The Santa Parasceve Civic Museum of the Territory in Ginosa houses a vast archaeological heritage found within the city, spanning several eras. Some archaeological research has revealed human settlements dating back to the Middle Paleolithic, in an advanced phase of the Mousterian culture. The Peucetian culture, from the 6th to 2nd centuries BC, is represented by countless artifacts such as Apulian kraters, epichyses, kyathoi, and more. There is also evidence of a Roman municipium, the ancient Genusia, probably located in the Madonna Dattoli Plain, from which some artifacts derive, including a tabula patronatus dated 395 AD. In the late antique period, the city began to grow toward the banks of the ravine near the rock villages of Casale and Rivolta, where Laertine-made majolica is believed to originate. At the end of the 11th century, Norman rule led to the construction of the castle and the Benedictine monastery of Santa Parasceve, from which come unglazed pottery, glazed pottery, and so-called ‘double-fired’ ceramics.
