Located in the foyer of the Municipal Theatre, the museum neatly outlines the historical events of the building, constructed based on a design by Lotario Tomba at the beginning of the nineteenth century on the site of two eighteenth-century theaters, Cittadella, destroyed by a fire in 1798, and Saline, demolished in those same years due to poor condition. The exhibited documentation includes the poster of the show performed at the inauguration, which took place on September 10, 1804, with Zamori, or the Hero of the Indies, a serious drama for music by Giovanni Simone Mayr, a sketch of the “secondino” painted by D. Menozzi in 1826, the watercolor costumes by L. Braghini for Hannibal in Bithynia, dated 1821, and some memorabilia of Giuseppe Verdi and Luigi Illica. On the top floor, traditionally reserved for set designers, a large corridor was adapted in the mid-70s as an exhibition space. Here are preserved photographs of artists and opera librettos from the early century that have gone out of repertoire.
