The Cathedral of Piacenza, begun in the 12th century, has always been a destination for the countless pilgrims passing along the Via Francigena. During its over a thousand years of existence, the Cathedral Chapter has amassed a remarkable collection of treasures. This is a vast heritage rich in testimonies from the Carolingian era to the present day: ancient manuscripts including the Master’s Book “Code 65”, collections of old printed music and various Lombard parchments, liturgical objects in gold and silver, reliquaries, sacred vestments, plates and pitchers, paintings and sculptures originating from the Cathedral. Featured are the 13th-century triptych by Serafino de’ Serafini and the Saint Jerome by Guido Reni, works by De Longe and Procaccini, as well as many stone fragments detached from the church walls. Also noteworthy is a 17th-century brandazza, formerly used in Corpus Christi processions.
