The Malacological Museum of Vieste was born from the passion of the couple Anna Ragnio and her husband Biagio Simone who, over the years and their countless travels, collected thousands of specimens around the world, particularly in Asian countries. This private collection began in 1975 as a simple commercial activity since they sold souvenirs and various shells. Over the years, the collection grew increasingly numerous and rich with rare and precious specimens. Precisely for this reason, in 1984, the activity was transformed and the malacological museum was born, located on Lungomare E. Mattei. In 1995, the museum was moved to the historic center of Vieste, where it currently resides. The premises that host the museum are very characteristic in themselves since it is a 17th-century building, used for centuries as a warehouse, while in the last 50 years it has been used as an oil mill. Entirely made of stone and rich in arches, it perfectly houses the exhibited specimens.
