The Historical Museum is located at the Idroscalo di Vigna di Valle, the oldest in Italy, situated on the southern shore of Lake Bracciano where, in 1904 by the will of Major Engineer Mario Maurizio Moris, recognized father of Italian aviation, the first Experimental Aeronautical Workshop was established. The Museum, with its 13,000 m2 of covered exhibition space, is one of the largest and most interesting aviation museums in the world. Spread over four large exhibition pavilions, it houses more than 60 aircraft and a substantial collection of engines and various aeronautical memorabilia that chronologically tell the history of military flight in Italy and the men who were its protagonists. The itinerary unfolds through sectors dedicated to the Pioneers, Airships, the First World War (Troster hangar, start of visit), the epic of the Polar Flights of General Nobile, the Great Mass Cruises, the Schneider Cup, the aircraft between the two wars (Velo hangar), the Second World War and the great airplanes (Badoni hangar), ending with the last pavilion illustrating the post-war rebirth of the Italian Air Force, which includes contemporary jet aircraft (Skema hangar).
