The Herbarium includes a collection of herbarium specimens of considerable size and scientific value. Established during the nineteenth century, it exhibits numerous herbariums collected from the sixteenth century onwards. Of particular interest are the Hortus siccus florae italicae, started in 1816, and the Hortus siccus exoticus, formed between 1820 and 1830 by Antonio Bertoloni (1775-1869), professor of Botany and Director of the Botanical Garden from 1816 to 1868. The Botanical Museum occupies a small room where several samples belonging to the most significant collections housed in the Herbarium are displayed in eight showcases: two are dedicated to the Botanical Garden, four house samples from historic herbarium collections, and two contain general information about the herbarium and its function. The visit path is accompanied by panels illustrating the history of this conservation institution, as well as brief notes on the evolution of botanical iconography.
