The Museum, aptly named Fisherman’s House, is set up inside a venue owned by the Municipality of Lesina, located along the lakeside, and serves in part as the Visitors Center for the Gargano National Park. The idea of creating a museum of lagoon culture in Capitanata originated in the 1990s, with the intention of creating a modern, well-organized and equipped venue housing scientifically selected “pieces” that would tell the story of human presence in this area from its earliest beginnings. Thanks to the help of the citizens of Lesina, who donated to the Municipality the objects that now form the museum’s collection, it has been possible to safeguard lagoon culture by recovering traditions and experiences linked to the economy, work, life, and society of the people, exploring a millennia-old history of communities living between land and water in an area otherwise known for shepherding and agriculture. The Municipality has also restored an old “sandalo,” an ancient lagoon boat, and has built in the locality
