The Gallerie dell’Accademia are housed in the Carità complex, composed of the Church of Santa Maria della Carità, the Scuola Grande della Carità (the oldest in Venice), and the Convent of the Lateran Canons designed in 1561 by Andrea Palladio.

The Gallerie, housed in 24 rooms, contains the most important collection of Venetian painting from the 14th to the 18th century, including some absolute masterpieces such as “The Tempest” by Giorgione, “The Pietà” by Titian, “The cycle of the Stories of Saint Ursula” by Carpaccio from the homonymous School, and “The Feast in the House of Levi” by Veronese.

On the top floor of the Palladian convent is the Quadreria, open to the public free of charge, by reservation only. The Drawing Cabinet of the Gallerie dell’Accademia holds among others some of the most important sheets of Western culture, including Leonardo’s “Vitruvian Man”.
