La Cuba, built by William II in 1180, is one of the last architectures of the Norman age.
The building is single-story divided into three parts and has no private apartments. Over time it has suffered serious collapses and alterations, due to its adaptation first as a lazaretto, and later as a barracks.
The exterior walls are decorated with blind ogival arches. At the lower part, some windows open, separated by masonry pilasters. The thick walls and few windows are thought to be due to climatic needs, offering greater resistance to the sun’s heat.
