“The archaeological documentation of Rutigliano, a Peucetian center known as Azetium, has been acquired through excavations and research in the area. The prehistoric section preserves ceramic materials of various types dating from the 11th to 7th centuries BC. The classical age section (6th-3rd centuries BC) mainly includes funerary equipment from the vast and rich necropolises present. There are also Roman age finds discovered in the Purgatorio district, and evidence of a Byzantine and Lombard settlement located near the ruins of Sant’Apolinare. The Museum testifies with its collections and finds to a time span from the Neolithic to the Imperial and early medieval age, without interruption. This richness and uniqueness of the Civic Museum of Rutigliano distinguishes it from other museums in Apulia and makes it an emblematic example worthy of note, which is intended to be highlighted in order to properly promote its collections, above all the “Colamussi” collection and the “Dioguardi” collection. The museum is temporarily closed to the public for organizational and management reasons. ”
