The Basilica of San Bernardino is a Catholic basilica located in L’Aquila.
It was built, along with the adjacent convent, between 1454 and 1472 in honor of Saint Bernardino of Siena. The saint’s remains are kept inside the basilica in a dedicated mausoleum.
In May 1946, Pope Pius XII elevated it to the dignity of a minor basilica.
The earthquake of April 6, 2009, severely damaged the apse and the bell tower.
On May 2, 2015, it was reopened to the public.
