On a small hill a few steps from the beach stands one of the towers that were part of the lookout line established in the 16th century by Charles V to counter invasions, especially Turkish ones. Other nearby towers from the same system can be found in Giulianova, Alba Adriatica, and finally in Martinsicuro, marking the border of the kingdom outlined by the Tronto river. Entirely made of terracotta with a square base, sloping walls, and machicolations, it is topped by a smaller tower from a later period. Today, the structure houses a marine biology research center and the Cerrano Marine Reserve.
