The museum established in the house inhabited by the famous writer Marino Moretti preserves memories, documents, paintings, manuscripts, and letters that offer those interested a deeper understanding of the poet and writer. The house is also today a renowned Center for studies and research on twentieth-century literature, promoting cultural and research activities, as well as the conservation, protection, and enhancement of its heritage. The writer’s house, overlooking the canal port, was acquired by the Municipality of Cesenatico in 1980, by testamentary will of his sister Ines. The house preserves its structure almost intact, along with the furnishing (which includes antique furniture, paintings, and prints from various eras) and the book and documentary collection, also donated to the Cesenatico community, which refer to Moretti’s life and work. Born in Cesenatico on July 18, 1885, Moretti devoted himself to literature from a young age. The Moretti archive includes, besides published texts (starting with the first short stories and poems around 1902-1903 and articles and essays written for various newspapers and magazines), manuscripts and notes related to the entire literary production: from the first novel, “Il sole del sabato” (The Saturday Sun) from 1916 to the “Poesie scritte col lapis” (Poems Written with a Pencil) from 1910, to the best-known books (“I puri di cuore” – The Pure in Heart, 1923; “L’Andreana”, 1938; “La vedova Fioravanti” – The Widow Fioravanti, 1941) where the writer narrates stories of simple everyday life, up to “I Grilli di Pazzo Pazzi” (The Crickets of Pazzo Pazzi) from 1951 and the latest poetry collections, such as “Diario senza le date” (Diary Without Dates) from 1966. An important archival core consists of Moretti’s correspondence, revealing the breadth and intensity of his relationships and friendships with poets, writers, artists, and intellectuals of his time. Book and documentary collections from other writers have recently been donated to the house-museum.
