Camping has always appealed to free spirits and nature lovers. If you’ve never tried it, it’s a good idea to weigh up the pros and cons before making your decision. Convinced that the advantages far outweigh the drawbacks, we’ve put together a detailed look at what camping really entails.
The Benefits of Camping
Choosing a camping holiday is often a more affordable option compared to many other types of travel. It’s also a unique way to immerse yourself in nature and enjoy an outdoor lifestyle.
It’s important to know that in Italy, campsite ratings and categories vary according to regional regulations, which are mostly based on the quality of services and facilities.
Among the main benefits, camping gives you greater freedom – you can choose your schedule and dress as you like. Of course, you still need to respect some basic rules for everyone’s comfort, but these are usually less strict than in hotels.
Most campsites are set in prime spots, often closer to nature than hotels. Take, for example, camping in Jesolo – Cavallino, Garden Paradiso, nestled in beautiful natural surroundings. While a hotel stay can become monotonous (especially for kids), camping is perfect for groups of friends, couples, and families with children. It offers a fun, relaxed environment and plenty of outdoor space for games and activities, with entertainment suitable for all ages.
Nowadays, most campsites also offer Wi-Fi, welcome pets, and feature restaurants and bars with prices suited to all budgets.
The Downsides
Let’s look at the downsides, which – as mentioned – are generally outnumbered by the benefits. If you’re not keen on nature, you might find camping uncomfortable due to allergies or potential bug bites. Privacy can also be limited, as the pitches are often close to each other.
Sometimes, if you don’t check carefully while booking, you might end up with a pitch that isn’t shaded: in spring it’s pleasant, but in the peak of summer it can be a real problem.
In many cases, you’ll need to bring basic equipment like a tent and sleeping bags. However, some campsites do provide everything you need. Still, amenities may not be on par with a private rental, so you might have to bring your own towels, sheets, and even a hairdryer. Unlike hotels, tents and campers need to be cleaned by guests themselves. So, if you’ve never been camping, it’s worth considering all aspects carefully – but overall, once you’ve tried it, you’re unlikely to go back.
