In the rooms of the “Marcabruno Palace” a permanent exhibition is set up that illustrates, through reconstructions, videos, and models, the Battle of Calliano. On August 10, 1487, the plain below the castle was the scene of the clash between Tyrolean and Venetian troops, who were advancing towards Trento in an attempt to expand their dominance over the territory. The Republic of Venice suffered an unexpected and resounding defeat, and in battle lost the famous commander Roberto da Sanseverino, of whom a copy of the tombstone depicting him with the inverted flag of San Marco is exhibited.
The series of painted coats of arms instead recalls the Tyrolean nobles who fought in the battle, the first that saw the fearsome Landsknechts face Italian troops in combat.
