The Franciscan Proto-Convent hosts, in addition to the Civic Archaeological Museum, the art gallery dedicated to the local artist Andrea Alfano (1879-1967), a poet and exceptional painter. The Art Gallery houses over 300 works including paintings, drawings, and sculptures, from the artist’s early works of the late 19th century to his final paintings of the mid-20th century. Alfano bequeathed to his hometown, through his will, the paintings originally displayed in his studio. Another 134 works come from donations by Alfano’s widow, while others were purchased by the Municipality. Among the most important works are the Self-Portrait and The Fallen Soldier’s Mother.
