The museum, located in the Courmayeur Guide House, was initiated and founded by Luigi Amedeo of Savoy and was inaugurated in 1929.
The museum collects historical documents, memorabilia, and photographs concerning the Courmayeur Guides, their mountaineering feats, and their expeditions. On the first floor, there is a permanent exhibition of mountain photographs taken by Vittorio Sella in the early decades of the century.
