Il museo, che ha sede nella Casa delle Guide di Courmayeur, fu voluto ed iniziato da Luigi Amedeo di Savoia e venne inaugurato nel 1929.
The museum collects historical documents, relics, and photographs concerning the Guides of Courmayeur, their mountaineering achievements, and their expeditions. On the first floor, there is a permanent exhibition of mountain photographs, made by Vittorio Sella in the early decades of the century.
