Palm Springs, sud della California meta dei VIP

The city, founded not many years ago, is located in the heart of the “Low Desert“, the real name of what is known to most as the “Colorado Desert“, southeast of California. It is here that golf enthusiasts can “choose” where to enjoy themselves, among about seventy courses.  A great contradiction, to say the least, between the aridity of the desert surrounding the town and the green of the courses. But Palm Springs was meant to be this way. It was supposed to be a place of tranquility but, at the same time, luxurious, for numerous American stars. And not only them.
The fame of Palm Springs as a vacation and winter residence spot, right after World War II, was richly contributed to by well-known figures like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. To put it briefly, Palm Springs was and is the holiday destination of Hollywood stars who can enjoy the exceptional climate (in winter the temperature can reach up to 38 degrees) and the thermal waters of this oasis in just two hours by car. Today, almost sixty years after its “construction”, it has about forty thousand inhabitants. It is estimated that for every three inhabitants there is one swimming pool and for every two residents there is one palm tree. Palm Springs has had the same fate as many towns in the western States. It was born as a settlement for gold prospectors although its subsequent development was certainly rosier.
The secret is not only in the climate. Here, unlike Los Angeles itself, which truthfully cannot be compared (for climate, crime, and vastness) to Palm Springs, but also unlike other Californian cities, there is no danger of earthquakes and fire. A true paradise, therefore. According to various scholars, Palm Springs already existed over a thousand years ago as an Indian settlement. But it was in the fifties that it gained worldwide fame. There was no movie star who did not pass through these parts. Elvis Presley‘s figure is also easily associated with Palm Springs. It was here that the famous rockstar “attempted” to spend his honeymoon. He attempted because soon after, discovered by paparazzi, he was forced to flee with his wife Priscilla. A real shame, for a place that would have happily lent itself to two lovers. A dream place, but one from which we would never want to wake up.
