Palm Spring, Southern California VIP Destination

“Winter golf capital of the world.” This is the term often used to describe one of the most glamorous places in the States: Palm Springs.

The city, established not many years ago, is located in the heart of the “Low Desert“, the true name of what is known to most as the “Colorado Desert“, southeast of California. This is where golf enthusiasts can “choose” where to indulge, among approximately seventy courses. A big contradiction, to say the least, between the aridity of the desert surrounding the town and the green of the courses. But Palm Springs was intended that way. It was meant to be a place of tranquility yet luxurious, for many American stars. And not only.
The fame of Palm Springs as a vacation and winter residence spot was significantly boosted immediately after World War II by notable figures such as Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. In short, Palm Springs was and still is the Hollywood stars’ holiday destination, where in just two hours by car they can enjoy the exceptional climate (in winter temperatures can reach up to 38 degrees) and the thermal waters of this oasis. Today, nearly sixty years since its “creation”, it has about forty thousand inhabitants. It is estimated that for every three inhabitants there is one swimming pool and for every two residents there is one palm tree. Palm Springs has shared the same fate as many towns in the western States. It was born as a gold miners’ settlement, although its future was definitely more prosperous.
The secret is not only the climate. Here, unlike Los Angeles itself, which frankly cannot be compared to Palm Springs (in terms of climate, crime, and expanse), but also other Californian cities, there is no risk of earthquakes or fire. A true paradise, therefore. According to various scholars, Palm Springs existed over a thousand years ago as an Indian settlement. But it was in the 1950s that it gained worldwide fame. No movie star passed through without visiting these parts. Palm Springs is also easily associated with Elvis Presley. It was here that the famous rock star “attempted” to spend his honeymoon. He tried because soon after, discovered by paparazzi, he was forced to flee with his wife Priscilla. A real shame, for a place that would gladly have welcomed two lovers. A dream place, but one from which we would never want to wake up.
