A norm of art. 7 of the regulation issued following the law of Nov. 12, 1818, in this last Archive the judicial papers, that is to say those of the courts which had a seat in Trani distinct from that of Bari, should have converged under the supervision of the king’s prosecutor.
In reality, for space reasons, the papers of the Sacred Royal Audience and other magistracies, which were based in Trani, have been accepted in the AS Bari. With the Royal Decree of Sept. 22, 1932, no. 1391, the Provincial Archive of Bari became the Provincial State Archive; with the law of Dec. 22, 1939, no. 2006, it became a Section of the State Archive, and with the Presidential Decree of Sept. 30, 1963, no. 1409, it became the State Archive.
The archives preserved here do not, of course, exhaust the documentation relating to Bari and other locations in the current province: it will be necessary to look especially at the collections preserved at the AS Naples.
