Il “Padre Pio Biographical Museum” is a wax museum, created in 2001 by the Museum Project Society of Florence in collaboration with the Municipality of San Giovanni Rotondo. It is located in the historic center (Via Pirgiano), in the building where Cav. Francesco Morcaldi, multiple times mayor of S. Giovanni Rotondo and a close friend of Padre Pio (he fought in the 1920s to prevent Padre Pio’s removal from San Giovanni Rotondo, personally leading city demonstrations in favor of the Capuchin friar), lived. The museum’s rooms represent key scenes from the life of Saint Pio of Pietrelcina. After a major renovation of the Morcaldi building, the preparation of the ten scenes that form the core of the museum proceeded. These, after careful study of Padre Pio’s life, were chosen with the consultation of the Capuchin Friars Minor of San Giovanni Rotondo, and a special commission made up of historians and members of the municipal council. Part of the setups was made in Pisa, in the OPUS studios, a professional association formed by young and sensitive artists responsible for designing and executing the work, then concluding the work on site from April 9 to May 9, 2001.
