“Il Museo del territorio ’’Casa Pezzolla’’ takes its name from Dr. Giacomo Pezzolla, who lived in the second half of the 18th century and was the personal doctor of the Acquaviva d’Aragona counts. The complex represents a tangible example of an evolving architectural culture. In this group of buildings, two types of construction stand out: one, more recent, develops over two floors, with a tall and narrow facade topped by a triangular pediment; the other, which represents the oldest part, is made up of simple, small-sized structures, mostly single-cell, equipped with the characteristic elements typical of trullo construction. Unlike the more modern part, in these areas the walls are made of uncut stones placed randomly. In 1986 the complex was purchased by the Municipality of Alberobello and, between 1993 and 1997, it was restored and returned to its original state. The Museo del Territorio ’’Casa Pezzolla’’ is the only complex composed of 15 communicating trulli protected by UNESCO.”
