“The Territory Museum ’Casa Pezzolla’ is named after Dr. Giacomo Pezzolla, who lived in the second half of the 18th century and was the personal physician of the Acquaviva d’Aragona counts. The complex represents a tangible example of an evolving architectural culture. Within this group of buildings, two architectural types stand out: one, more recent, developed over two floors, with a tall and narrow façade topped by a triangular pediment; the other, representing the oldest part, consists of simple and small-sized structures, mostly single-room, featuring the characteristic elements typical of trullo construction. Contrary to the more modern section, in these areas the walls are made of irregular stones placed randomly. In 1986 the complex was purchased by the Municipality of Alberobello and, between 1993 and 1997, it was restored and returned to its original state. The Territory Museum ’Casa Pezzolla’ is the only complex made up of 15 interconnected trulli protected by UNESCO.”
