Medellin Guide

Medellin is the second-largest city in Colombia and an important commercial and industrial center. It is located at 1475 meters above sea level, nestled among mountains and hills. The climate is temperate, ranging from 18 to 28 degrees. The city is about a 45-minute flight from Bogotá, 45 from Cali, and 55 from Cartagena and Barranquilla.

For its beautiful women, friendly and hospitable people, the spring-like climate, flowering landscapes, nearby mountains, and Natural Parks, Medellin and its surroundings captivate the visitor. A modern city, with a great gastronomic, commercial, and touristic offer, it provides countless opportunities for leisure and business. The population is known for being active, business-oriented, and commercially savvy, with a proverbial ability to save but also a lot of creativity in seasoning and enriching their stories with much color. 
In August in Medellin the famous Flower Festival takes place, and in July Colombiamoda was held, with 1,493 international buyers from 21 countries and 6,679 national buyers participating in the last edition. In the textile sector, 45,000 direct and 135,000 indirect employees are employed, equivalent to 30% of the city’s workforce. 
In Medellin no one gets bored. On every street or corner there is always something to do.  For art lovers, we recommend visiting the Antioquia Museum, which houses many works by Botero.  Other interesting places: the Botanical Garden; the “pueblito paisa”; the water park; the Park of Wishes; the barefoot park; the White Stones ecological park; Montecarlo Farm; Volador and Nutibara; the “Casa Gardeliana” museum;  the interactive museum and the “Rafael Uribe” culture museum.
In Medellin there are 52 movie theaters, 28 theaters, 15 museums, 80 restaurants, 5 enormous park-libraries, the Explora science and technology park with the largest freshwater aquarium in Latin America; the Botanical Garden, with an “Orquideorama” that can host 3,000 people; more than 40 shopping centers; nightclubs, some of which can accommodate up to 2,000 people.
Medellin has excellent infrastructure for all types of events, fairs, congresses, or incentives. In the Main Square, next to the city’s commercial and financial center, stands the Exhibition Palace and the Congress Center, whose largest hall can accommodate up to 3,200 delegates. It also has 9 commission rooms for 10 to 300 delegates and a banquet hall for 1,200 guests reserved for dinners, parties, cocktails.
Hotels in Medellin: many city hotels also have halls for 20 to 1,500 delegates.  In total, Medellin offers 71 hotels (including 10 luxury and 3 first-class hotels, totaling 1,565 rooms), plus another 8 under construction, for a total of 7,000 rooms. 
Transportation: in Medellín there is the only metro system in Colombia, transporting 400,000 passengers daily. In addition, there is a network of private buses and a cable car (Metrocable). Taxis number about 19,000. The city has two airports, the most important being Jose Maria Cordova Airport, located in the municipality of Rionegro, 30 minutes by car from the center, operating national and international flights, while Enrique Olaya Herrera Airport operates only domestic flights. Medellin is connected to Italy via Paris (AirFrance), through Madrid (Avianca, Iberia, or Aircomet) to Bogotá, and then by internal lines with multiple daily frequencies. Flight duration Bogotá-Medellín: 30 to 50 minutes depending on the airline. Cartagena-Medellín: 55 minutes. The flag carrier is AVIANCA. Upon leaving the country, an airport tax of about USD$33.00 is paid. The taxi ride from the airport to downtown takes about 35 minutes and costs around $15,000 COP or €5.
Climate: Medellin, also called “the city of eternal spring,” enjoys mild weather all year round. The average temperature is around 23°.
