Nell’State Archive of Verona the first group includes a particularly important collection, that of the ancient archive of the Municipality of Verona with documents dating from 1405 to 1900.
From the period of Venetian domination, important are the acts of the City Councils from 1405 to 1797; fundamental are the Tax Rolls, the City Registries, and the series related to the Municipal Accounting Administration from 1630 to 1805 as well as other series related to neighboring municipalities.
The second group includes the series of acts of the Venetian Rectors and the Fiscal Chamber (1405-1797). From the Napoleonic period are the acts of the Verona Central Government (1797), the Vice Prefecture of the Verona District (1803-1805), Prefecture of the Adige department (1805-1814).
Alongside the archives of the Government Bodies, the Archive of the Civil and Criminal Court and the Special Court (1789-1812) is preserved. For the study of the Middle Ages, all monastic archives merged after the suppressions carried out by the Napoleonic Government are extremely important, with about 85,000 rolls of parchment material alone and thousands of files, registers, and maps.
There are about 50 family archives donated or deposited, preserving not only registers, files, and parchments but also various drawings, very important for the study of hydrography and regulation of watercourses, indispensable for the development of agriculture.
Finally, in addition to the acts of deceased Notaries (1409-1885), the cadastral collections from the Austrian era and the acts of all Peripheral Offices of the Justice Administration are preserved. The documentation preserved covers a time span from 762 to 1965. From March 30, 2015, the Archive was moved to the new location at Via Santa Teresa, 6.
Hours State Archive of Verona
The public reception hours are as follows: 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM from Monday to Thursday; 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Friday and Saturday. The study hall has been open since April 14, 2015, and until the completion of the operations, on Tuesdays from 8:15 AM to 5:00 PM. The photocopy and cashier services will observe the following hours respectively: 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM and 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM.
