Ha sede in un palazzo neoclassico progettato dall’ingegnere acese Mariano Panebianco. It is the oldest Sicilian academy, founded under the name Zelantea in 1671. In 1834 it was united with the congregation of the Fathers of the Study and in 1934 with the eighteenth-century Accademia dei Dafnici. Since 1963, by decree of the President of the Republic, it has assumed the current name and a new statute. The library houses hundreds of thousands of volumes, dated from 1461, including some 16th-century incunabula. In the part intended as a museum, there is an eighteenth-century carriage of the Acese Senate, a collection of Greco-Roman artifacts, including the Bust of Acireale (a Roman archaeological find discovered in 1675 in the hamlet of Capomulini), a collection of weapons, some collections of minerals, coins, and fossils.
