“La Pinacoteca “Michele de Napoli” was born from the testamentary bequest through which the artist, in 1892, wanted to donate to the Municipality of Terlizzi his rich collection of artworks (over a thousand paintings and drawings), to be placed inside the palace where he had lived, also made available to his fellow citizens and to those who wanted to enjoy his art and appreciate beauty in all its expressions. In 2009, after long and complex restoration and repurposing works to adapt it to the needs of a modern art gallery, the building was returned to public use, allowing the Municipal Administration to set up, in July 2010, the exhibition “Michele de Napoli: from ‘historical painting’ to late works.” The exhibition presents a selection of 85 particularly significant works from Michele de Napoli’s artistic research carried out over nearly sixty years of activity, between Naples, Rome, and his Terlizzi. The Pinacoteca, equipped with modern exhibition structures and sophisticated information systems, intends, beyond showcasing Michele de Napoli’s creative expression, to offer opportunities for cultural deepening through the organization of temporary exhibitions and educational workshops aimed at school-aged children.”
