Circa 2 Km. S-SW of Tuscania there is the necropolis of Madonna dell’Olivo, so named after the adjacent church of the same name. Although already active in the Etruscan archaic age, the fame of the necropolis is mainly due to the presence of Hellenistic age tombs (4th-1st centuries BC) arranged on various levels and sometimes with architectural façades and carved decorations. Particularly well known are the Grotta della Regina, explored last century and connected with a system of tunnels of unclear meaning, and the tombs of the Curunas family which, discovered between 1967 and 1970, yielded rich grave goods (4th-1st centuries BC) now displayed in the Archaeological Museum of Tuscania.
