“Il Museo Etnografico “”Francesco Prelorenzo””, founded in 1987 by Prof. Luigi Palmiotti, by agreement with the Municipality, is housed inside the Norman Tower at the Swabian Castle. The Norman Tower was entrusted by the Municipality to the Archeoclub after recognizing the importance of the association in promoting Cultural Heritage. The Museum has an ethnographic collection spread over three floors. On the first floor, there are rare tools related to the vanished trades of the farming civilization and seafaring people. On the second floor is the house of bygone times with furniture and objects from the 18th-19th centuries. The third floor is instead devoted to popular religiosity, with a collection of ex votos for received favors, holy cards, votive lamps, and a small section dedicated to local contemporary painters. The Museum also has a small library containing local and Apulian texts, conducts educational activities with schools and Universities, particularly with the Faculty of Architecture and the History of Popular Traditions of the University of Bari. It also promotes conferences, international awards in the field of Culture, Art, and Entertainment, in honor of the European-famous musician Sergio Nigri, a flutist from the 19th century. Guided tours are carried out for scholars, visitors, and students.”
