“The Ethnographic Museum “Francesco Prelorenzo”, founded in 1987 by Prof. Luigi Palmiotti, by agreement with the Municipality, is located inside the Norman Tower at the Swabian Castle. The Norman Tower was entrusted by the Municipality to the Archeoclub after recognizing the association’s importance in enhancing Cultural Heritage. The Museum houses an ethnographic collection spread over three floors. On the first floor, there are rare equipment related to the lost trades of peasant civilization and seafaring people. The second floor features a traditional house with furnishings and objects from the 18th and 19th centuries. The third floor is dedicated to popular religiosity, with a collection of ex-votos for favors received, holy cards, votive lamps, and a small section dedicated to local contemporary painters. The Museum also has a small library containing local and Apulian texts and carries out educational activities with schools and universities, particularly with the Faculties of Architecture and History of Popular Traditions at the University of Bari. Additionally, it promotes conferences and international awards in the fields of Culture, Art, and Entertainment, in honor of the European-famous 19th-century flutist Sergio Nigri. Guided tours are available for scholars, visitors, and students.”
