“Il Museo Etnografico “”Francesco Prelorenzo””, founded in 1987 by Prof. Luigi Palmiotti, by agreement with the Municipality, is located inside the Norman Tower at the Swabian Castle. The Norman Tower was entrusted by the Municipality to the Archeoclub after recognizing the importance of the association in the enhancement of Cultural Heritage. The Museum has an ethnographic collection spread over three floors. On the first floor there are rare equipment related to the lost crafts of peasant civilization and seafaring people. On the second floor is the house of bygone times with furnishings and objects from the 18th-19th centuries. The third floor is dedicated instead to popular religiosity, with a collection of ex-votos for graces received, holy cards, votive lamps, and a small section dedicated to local contemporary painters. The Museum also has a small library containing local and Apulian texts, conducts educational activities with schools and Universities, particularly with the Faculty of Architecture and Folk Traditions History of the University of Bari. It also promotes conferences, international awards in the field of Culture, Art and Entertainment, in honor of the European famous musician Sergio Nigri, 19th-century flutist. Guided tours are available for scholars, visitors, and students.”
