Today, the local history museum, the churches, and the village streets lined with shops also reveal its past and traditions. The surroundings are beautiful, especially the southern region with Lake Zell and the Kimmler waterfalls, which are 380 meters high. Returning to skiing, the Streiff slope is legendary, where World Cup races are held, with a gradient reaching up to 85%.
The area also includes the villages of Aurach, Reith, and Jochberg: 59 slopes, totaling almost 150 km of ski runs between the Kitzbuheler Horn and the Pass Thurn, in the northeastern sector of Tyrol.
Originally established as a resort for fashionable tourism, over the years and with the onset of the economic crisis, Kitzbuhel managed to reconvert its offer towards a broader market range, proposing accommodation packages for all seasons and budgets (for more information: Kitzbuhel Tourismus tel. 0043.5356777 and Kitzbuheler Alpen, the largest ski area in Tyrol, tel.0043.5356/64748).
