While the two main cities offer accommodations that are essentially traditional, consisting mostly of good and well-established hotels, it is in the surrounding valleys and smaller towns that hospitality knows no limits or rivals. Here, you can find everything: traditional and modern hotels where the natural-alpine style predominates, with stylized and design interiors, widespread but at the same time almost imperceptible references to wood, water, and rock. Then there are the simpler but very welcoming guesthouses (Garnì), where staying in a soft bed is often accompanied by a hearty breakfast of speck, cheese, dark bread, and fragrant homemade jams. A marvel are the ancient peasant farmhouses (masi) situated at altitude, overlooking majestic peaks and nestled among flowering clearings. Here, especially if traveling with children, it is very pleasant to stay (the prices are more than affordable), to observe cows, goats, and rabbits up close; maybe lend a hand to the farmer during haymaking or to his wife picking wild fruits and preparing tasty syrups and preserves. The South Tyrolean farmhouses are famous for having created a well-established chain, complete with brands and a symbol, that guarantee seriousness and quality of service. A few words also for the numerous boutique hotels and relais nestled in lavish spa towns like Merano (where the brand-new Thermal Baths and the dense network of hotels connected to them are not to be missed), where beauty and slimming gurus uphold the name of historic residences, with stellar services and prices. Then there are the countless hotels and guesthouses for those who love skiing, outdoor life, and wellness that comes from contact with nature. So much so that some have chosen to distinguish this specificity with groups and dedicated brands, like the Alberghi Tutto Montagna, the Alpine Wellness Hotels, the Vitanova Hotels… and the more, the merrier.
Where to Stay in Trentino Alto Adige
