The Antiquarium is spread over three public levels (on the ground floor ticketing/reception services, two exhibition rooms on the first floor, and two exhibition rooms on the second floor). It collects and displays a synthesis of the historical-cultural evolution of the area of ancient Numana and the Conero Riviera south of Ancona, from prehistory, through the Iron Age, to the Roman imperial age and beyond. Much of the exhibition is dedicated to the Iron Age and the Picene civilization (9th – 3rd centuries BC), featuring a selection of the most representative grave goods found in the excavations of the necropolises and settlements of ancient Numana, which mostly extend also into the territory of the adjacent modern Municipality of Sirolo. Among other finds, the two chariots, a biga and a carriage, and a carefully curated selection of objects from the prestigious assemblage of the so-called Tomb of the Queen (late 6th century BC) stand out. The exhibition presenting materials originating from Numana follows a chronological order (with the oldest testimonies exhibited on the second floor of the building and gradually continuing downward to the first floor). This chronological sequence is interrupted in the small room on the second floor called the “Hall of Wonders,” where, with periodically updated displays, the most significant artifacts from recent excavations conducted in the territory are exhibited.
