L’Antiquarium develops on three levels for the public (on the ground floor ticketing/welcome services, two exhibition rooms on the first floor and two exhibition rooms on the second floor). It collects and displays a synthesis of the historical-cultural evolution of the area of ancient Numana and the Conero Riviera south of Ancona, from prehistory, through the Iron Age, to the imperial Roman age and beyond. Much of the exhibition is dedicated to the Iron Age and the Picenum civilization (9th – 3rd century BC), through a selection of the most representative grave goods found in the excavations of the necropolises and settlements of ancient Numana, which also largely extend into the territory of the adjacent present-day Municipality of Sirolo. Among other finds, notable are the two carts, chariot and carriage, and a curated selection of objects from the prestigious set of the so-called Queen’s Tomb (late 6th century BC). The exhibition presenting materials from Numana follows a chronological order (with the oldest evidence displayed on the second floor of the building and progressing downwards to the first floor). This chronological sequence is interrupted in the small room on the second floor called the “Room of Wonders” where the most significant finds from the latest excavations carried out in the territory are displayed, with periodically updated arrangements.
