If you’re planning a holiday in Slovenia—even just for a weekend—it’s essential to know the rules for using the motorway network in this country. This information is especially important for those who choose to travel to Slovenia by car, motorcycle, camper, or minibus: to drive on Slovenian motorways and certain expressways, you must purchase a Slovenian motorway vignette.

Toll payments in Slovenia work differently than in Italy: there are no toll booths. The Slovenian motorway vignette is paid in advance and, once purchased, is valid for a period ranging from one week to one year.
The Slovenian motorway vignettes—also known as “vignette“—are sold at the country’s post offices and some newsstands. You can also buy them at petrol stations in Slovenia and in neighboring countries, close to the border.
You can also contact the Slovenian automotive association (AMZS) or the equivalent associations in other countries (such as ACI).

Slovenian Vignette Prices

You can purchase a Slovenia vignette at designated outlets at border crossings or at motorway toll booths.
After purchase, the Slovenian motorway vignette must be affixed to your vehicle’s windshield (it’s self-adhesive), and make sure to keep the lower part of the sticker, which serves as proof of purchase.

This is very important and must be done before entering the motorway section you intend to use. Failing to display the vignette carries the same penalty as not having bought one at all.
If you are fined, the amount ranges from 300 to 800 euros.
Here are the Slovenian motorway vignette prices:

  • Vehicles with a maximum total mass of up to 3.5 t:
    – Weekly: 15.00 euros;
    – Monthly: 30.00 euros;
    – Annual: 95.00 euros.
  • Motorcycles:
    – Weekly: 7.50 euros;
    – Half-yearly: 25.00 euros;
    – Annual: 47.50 euros.

For vehicles weighing more than 3.5 tons, tolls are calculated based on kilometers traveled and must be paid at toll booths.
