If you were thinking of organizing a coast-to-coast vacation in Sardinia with your family, it is important to know that thanks to the service offered by some Sardinia ferry companies, it is possible to board your camper from various cities in Italy.
Discovering Sardinia from Cagliari to Villasimius
Our advice is to start the itinerary from Cagliari so that you can head towards Villasimius on the very first day, following the wonderful southern coast of Sardinia. On this stretch, we recommend taking the roads that run along the sea and enjoy the view offered by the Poetto beach.
Right after this glimpse, the route connecting Villasimius to Costa Rei begins. Our advice is to stop to have lunch with your camper near Cala Regina or in the small bay of Mare Pintau, both offering breathtaking views.
After a few kilometers, you arrive at Villasimius where you can relax on the beaches of Notteri, Simius, and Porto Giunco.
The location of Porto Giunco is also one of the most scenic because, besides the crystal-clear sea, it has a wonderful lagoon behind the beach. We recommend spending the night in Villasimius to take advantage of the lively atmosphere the town offers, especially during summer nights.
From Costa Rei to Nora and Chia
On the early morning of the second day of travel, passing Capo Carbonara, continue north towards the beaches of Costa Rei. Famous for being long beaches with crystal-clear waters and very white sand.
The first beach you encounter on this stretch is Cala Sinzias; continuing the itinerary, a few kilometers further you will also find the wild bays of Monte Nai and Piscina Rei. But if you’re looking for tranquility, we recommend continuing north, near the Colostrai pond, close to Muravera where it is also possible to stay overnight with your camper.

The third day of travel will be towards Nora and the beaches of Chia to say goodbye to Sardinia’s southern coast and head west. You can retrace the same coast-to-coast route back or follow our advice and take the highway.
Once past Cagliari, head towards Pula to visit the archaeological site of Nora. Then continuing north, you arrive at Bithia, today known as Chia, which offers a beautiful and very long sandy coastline and the possibility to stay overnight at the local tower with the same name. The following day, wake up early to head towards Capo Spartivento.
Su Giudeu and the city of the sun
Su Giudeu is characterized by a long stretch of sand and is also known as the freshwater beach. Together with Porto Campana, they form the Spartivento dunes.
At this point, it will be the last day to explore Sardinia, but on the way back to Cagliari, you can pass through some wild and untouched places in Teulada and Domus De Maria. Once you reach Cagliari, depending on the time you have available, you may decide whether or not to visit the city.
